Basement 2.0

Took us about 6 mos to get this room together and weve dropped peeks here and there but finally its 95% done, the last item is the full bath down here that is getting some love right now. And yes, we are earth tone lovers :-)

First step was the media area for the big screen, we fused 3 stands together to take up as much of this 14' wall as we could and still look decent.

With the TV on it, the stands appear as a single unit which is what we were hoping for.  Believe it or not its actually an 80" but still gets peculiarly eaten up by this wall. If we decide to stay here long term we may upgrade this to a projection system for a larger picture.

Added some wall art and wall-to-wall black curtains to frame the space. Its a very effective technique to remove distractions to help focus on the screen. tried the speakers on the shelves, left too much nothing space on the sides which a tree couldve hidden but that look didnt work for us.

Lamps and vases up

Love these very unique lamps and glass sculptures from Italy. Home Goods!

All tied together. On the left shelf are two 400 dvd/blu-ray jukeboxes that hold all of the movies that went into the wall art, the newer movies are all on a digital box so we can stream those to any room. Rope lighting on the bottom shelves adds a great feel.

Wide view with custom made table, wall art, basket with pillows, game chairs and the perfect sectional to square out the space.

recliners with massage....ahhhhhh

Custom framed artwork with focus lighting on dimmer

Added 4 rear speakers on the entire wall with their own source and volume controls. They can either be the surround speakers for this floor or play the music from the family room!

full view of the 2nd area with custom bar and lighting all on separate dimmers, rope light ambiance lighting in the mirror on its own switch, with the lights dim it feels great

Behind bottles stone accent added

lighting and speaker controls. If youre looking to add this many switches, 5-gang boxes & plates are only available from an electrical supply

 Thanks!

    1. Hi LaRon, thanks. Been in for 2 years and barely have two floors complete. I think a good lesson we learned is not to force fit your current belongings into the new space. We barely brought anything from our old place except for the basics and started fresh. It allows you to build piece by piece and reduces clutter.

  4. So Steve, usually you do a little more of a detail by detail type of demo. LOL, I ask because our basement too is a work in progress. We have the new very large Samsung 4k curve (blah, blah, blah) husband stuff. LOL, anyway, they surround sound hardwiring is in the walls since we finished it ourselves. Hubby has been searching for a decent surround sound system that wont break the bank, we had BOSE in our upstairs and quality is good but it just does NOT play well with others as far as the PS4 and some other things like Netflix..............anyway...........Looking into a good surround sound in the basement has been a challenge (well I think not really IF I LET him pay and ARM and a Leg) which I wont do. So Steve, what did you use, I know you can intermix your receivers and what not also? Can you kindly give a little break down and pricing please?? Thanks so much. DW

    1. Hey guys, haha sorry about that. I figured with just the general walkthrough people wouldnt really care about too much detail. I went with a middle tier receiver the Sony STR-DN1050, it has 6in/3out plus component and composite inputs to support any legacy devices. Its 7.2 Channel , 165W per channel plus 4k upscaling, so it would be compatible with your Samsung and ran < $500. We have the 2 sony changers, a xbox one and 360 plus the media storage for digital downloads & streaming. My media library is two 4TB drives connected to a Strawberry Pi motherboard which is actually mounted to the underside of a shelf ~$100.The Bluray jukeboxes are Sony BDP-CX960 and are awesome with search functionality for discs and IMDB downloads of disc info. These are a bit hefty at around $1k each but I found them on ebay for half that. For speakers Ive had some Dahlquist DQ-12 for years that I love. Luckily, there is a good large piece of bulk head that I can mount a projector on in the perfect spot with very little effort. We shall see on that one. Hope this helps guys!
